“So’ nato ajere” (“I Was Born Yesterday”) captures the desire to be reborn every day, to live a thousand different lives within a single one, to look at the world with fresh eyes each time, rediscovering its beauty and uncovering new truths. For Valerio, every day is a blank page waiting to be filled with colour (“cca’ pe me’ tutt’ e nuovo, è un foglio bianco ca’ nun vec’ l’ora ‘e culura'”). Growing older has not diminished his desire to embrace life with lightness and enthusiasm, treating each day as a new discovery.
With So’ nato ajere, Valerio explores this distinctive aspect of his personality, continuing the artistic journey he began two years ago with E si’ arrivata pure tu, the only original song featured in the soundtrack of Paolo Sorrentino’s film Parthenope. It was with that song that the singer-songwriter from Caserta first chose to write in the Neapolitan language – a language that represents his roots and heritage – and one that has led him towards a more introspective and autobiographical style of songwriting.
Musically, So’ nato ajere moves into indie-folk and country territory, driven by a delicately arpeggiated acoustic guitar that carries the song throughout, giving it a bright, gently swaying mid-tempo feel.
Alongside Valerio Piccolo on vocals and guitar, the recording features Pino Pecorelli – who also arranged the track – on bass, Puccio Panettieri on drums, Duilio Galioto on keyboards, Emanuele Bultrini on guitars, and backing vocals by Domitilla Masi.
